Birmingham Rockschool

We teach electric guitar, bass, drums and singing in our custom-built music studio in Kings Norton, Birmingham.

Our Rockschool lessons for 7 – 17 year olds and adults 18+ are taught in a rock-band environment. Students have a one hour lesson in guitar, bass, drums or singing, and spend 50 minutes learning new techniques on their instrument followed by an exciting 10 minute jam session where students get to put what they have learned into practice, performing 2 rock or pop classics in a band with the other students.

Rockschool lessons are taught on a 2:1 basis with a maximum of two students per tutor, except for singing lessons which are taught on a 1:1 basis. Rockschool lessons take place on Saturday mornings (10am, 11.10am, 12.20pm and 1.30pm), on Tuesday evenings (5.10pm, 6.20pm and 7.30pm) and on Wednesday evenings (5.10pm, 6.20pm and 7.30pm).

We also offer mini rockers sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4.30pm to 5.00pm. These are half hour sessions especially for our younger students.

In addition to our Rockschool sessions, we also offer 1:1 lessons for all ages and abilities – please contact us with your preferred day and time and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Our music lessons run for 50 weeks per year. We continue throughout all school holidays, with the exception of Christmas/New Year when we close for 2 weeks.

Learning from the best!

All our tutors are carefully selected and trained, and all are dedicated to passing their knowledge onto the next generation of musicians.

Studio lessons are taught on a 2:1 basis, however in the rare event of tutor illness, students may be taught in a larger group than normal.

Where possible, students will be taught by the same tutor each week, or in some cases by an alternating pair of tutors. However, students may be taught by other tutors when covering for staff holidays/illness.

We are Sharon and Gemma, mother and daughter and directors at Birmingham Rockschool!

We opened our first music school in February 2008 out of a passion for music and inspiring performance, and our enthusiasm has only grown in the years we have been operating. We started from humble roots with one school in Solihull on a Saturday morning, and now operate seven days a week in our very own custom built studio!

We only employ tutors that have exceptional skill and an outstanding love for passing on their musical knowledge to the next generation of rock superstars. All our tutors are certified awesome so take a look below to meet the team!

I’ve learnt so much and am challenging myself more than I ever thought possible, an hour doesn’t seem long enough now. Thanks for giving me the confidence to believe I can sing.”

“Only had 3 lessons with Jade I think I’ve made massive improvements in a short time fantastic instructor”

"My daughter joined almost two years ago and it has made a huge impact on her life. She absolutely loves every lesson and all the live shows and events she has taken part in have massively increased her confidence. She has made lots of new friends who have the same passion for music as she does and has huge respect for all of the staff who work tirelessly to give the students the best experience and tuition possible. I also joined the adult choir which is one of the best things ive ever done too. Great people, great music, great tuition. Highly recommended!" Lynne Whitlock

"I Started with the choir which is fantastic fun and always leaves me floating on a musical high after every rehearsal or show. I recently started bass lessons and am loving them. I'm blown away by the commitment of the whole team to everyone doing the best that they can, and to getting everyone involved and performing regardless of whether they have been playing for one week or 5 years. Brilliant! I totally recommend it." Ali Joyce
"I've had singing lessons for nigh on four years here, it's been one of the best activities I've started! Not only have these lessons improved my singing thousandfold (coming from someone who thought it was impossible) but my confidence and ability to express myself have come along amazingly. The impact on my every day life these lessons have given me can never be truly expressed." Rosie Pacaud
"Tom has been having lessons for just over 2 years now and he still doesn't put his guitar down. He's had some amazing opportunities and loves every lesson and show! " Michelle Eden

So many opportunities to show everyone how much you rock!

As well as performing in our weekly jam sessions, all Rockschool students have the opportunity to take part in several Rock Shows every year, performing on stage in front of family & friends.

Every Christmas, we put on a special seasonal performance for all the family including all your favourite festive songs, and we get spooky every October with our Halloween Spooktakular!

With the growing popularity of adult 1:1 singing lessons, we also arrange special Vocalist Showcase nights for our adult singers at local music venues.

All students also get the opportunity to perform at community and public events throughout the year. In the past, our students have performed at carnivals in Bournville, Solihull, Shirley, Kings Norton, Kings Heath and Northfield, at Home of Metal, Romstock, Festival In The Park, Happy Valley Festival, Artsfest and many more.
